HOMEWORK - Education

1. DO YOU THINK JAPAN SHOULD GIVE MORE STUDENTS OPINIONS TO STUDY MORE LANGUAGES (OTHER THAN ENGLISH) IN JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL?

i do not think so. studying more language should confuse students. there are lots of students who get confused about the difference between English and Japanese. if we give more students opinions to study more languages in junior and senior high school, it would just impose a heavy burden on them. what we add more language classes despite lots of Japanese cannot speak English must have no future.

2. DO YOU AGREE WITH THE WRITER MINAE MIZUMURA ("THE FALL OF JAPANESE IN THE AGE OF ENGLISH") WHEN SHE SAYS THAT, "THE DOMINANCE OF ENGLISH, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ADVENT OF THE INTERNET, THREATENS TO REDUCE ALL OTHER NATIONAL LANGUAGES TO MERE "LOCAL" LANGUAGES THAT ARE NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY SCHOLARS. THE EDUCATION SYSTEM, SHE ARGUES, DOESN'T SPEND ENOUGH TIME TEACHING JAPANESE." WHY? GIVE AT LEAST REASONS TO SUPPORT YOUR ANSWER.

i agree with her.

ⅰ it is true that the dominance of English is being important more than Japanese by scholars. actually introducing English education into elementary school is going to be start, and lots of children take lessons in conversational English. that says that both the government and parents of children think English should be more important in the age to come.

ⅱ the advance of Internet have given people lot of information about other cultures and they get interested in them especially culture of English-speaking world. then they could yearn for that and be losing interest in their own country, Japan. actually traditional Japanese culture is dying out with the advent of foreign one.

ⅲ in the business sense, people who can speak English especially who have a experience in studying abroad can be given better treatment, and people who cannot speak English cannot promote in some company. i think that is one of the reasons all students in HJU have to take TOEIC classes.

though i agree with the author's opinion "the fall of Japanese in the age of English", i do not worry about this situation. cause people interested in foreign culture will realise how Japanese culture and language is nice during studying and learning other, and a lot of adults seem to realise that what they cannot use their mother language, Japanese correctly is ashamed. then most of them are starting to study correct Japanese again. so i think we could study and use both English: as communication and business skill and Japanese: very proud as the situation demands.

HOMEWORK - Men and Women

DID YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THE AUTHOR? PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY.
i agree with the author.
there are more defensive men for love relationship, actually we have heard "shoushoku-kei dandhi" from the media since last year.
recently, both men and women work hard and want to do something they want to: they prefer spending time on their own. even so, lots women are always agressive or interested in love. i have no idea why there are differences in ways of thinking about love.
now men's out-of-love epidemic, but they would get out of it in time. (it may sound that i have not thought it tough..) cause love relationship is necessary for life.

HOMEWORK - Table Manners

1. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY? WHERE? WHAT DID YOU EAT? DID YOU MAKE A MISTAKES? PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR EXPERIENCE.
yes, in New Zealand, England and Korea. i ate Chinese food, sushi and pizza in NZ. in England, Chinese food, Korean food, Italian food, Japanese food, Indian food, and traditional afternoon tea. then in Korea, i ate Korean food like samgyeopsal, chijim, japchae and tackalbi. i did not know whether i mistook or not cause i didn't know foreign table manners well. but i just knew that i do not have to pick up a bowl in Korea, so i just cared that when i ate in Korea.

2. DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING?
my mother and grand mother were strict about table manners when i was a little. so i learned a lot: the use of chopsticks, how to hold a bowl, do not speak with my mouth full, don't place my elbow on the table and so on. they always said "if you have bad table manners, you won't be able to get a feller!" when i mistook.

HOMEWORK - Weddings

1. SINCE JAPANESE WEDDINGS ARE EXPENSIVE, DO YOU THINK HAVING A MASSIVE WEDDING LIKE KOREA OR UAE? IS A GOOD IDEA? WHY?
i don't think so. a massive wedding is very nice but it dose not conform with Japanese people cause of shy. also, it may be hard to prepare and make a couple tired before them wedding day.

2. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HAVING A ELOPING? IS IT A GOOD IDEA OR ROMANTIC? WHY?
neither a good idea nor romantic, i will never do that. though it sounds romantic like clip from a film, it should give eloped couples feeling of loneliness and guilt even loving each other: they will live with them for the rest of their lives. they have to make themselves understood by them families.

3. HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING A WEDDING IN A FOREIGN LOCATION LIKE HAWAII? WOULD YOU DO IT? WHY? OR WHY NOT?
yes, i have cause my parents had a wedding in Bahama. i saw that photos and video when i was in elementally school, those were so nice and would become my longing. but them relatives are too old-fashioned and stubborn, they were not amused by that.

4. WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL WEDDING?
common Japanese one would be good for me. i wanna be celebrated by all my significant people and show my proud moment, then i express my hearty thanks for them.

5. WHAT WOULD YOU DEFINITELY DO, WEAR OR GO TO ON THAT BIG DAY? WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT?
i'd love to wear a Japanese traditional one and some wedding dresses which are good on me. i want to fun fine dressing cause the day is just a day that we, woman can be princess. and, i'd like to go to Bahama where my parents made a vow to love one another for my honeymoon.

6. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A FOREIGNER'S WEDDING? WHAT WAS YOUR IMPRESSION?
never. i'm interested in that though...

HOMEWORK - Superstitions

COMMENT ABOUT MS.CAMILLA'S PRESENTATION
her presentation with lots of pictures of foods was so nice and interesting! I was especially surprised about the big fish, and want to try danish bread cause i love bread!

1. DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO TALK ABOUT SUPERSTITIONS IN MANY COUNTRIES IN CROSS CULTURE COMMUNICATION CLASS? WHY?
yes, i do. superstitions came down from old people to us, people of today, so we can see cultures through them. like what is important in this country, what people think that country... i guess every country has own superstitions and they should affect them cultures, personality, ...all things!

2. IS COMMUNICATION AFFECTED BY SUPERSTITIONS?
basically no. i never have communications affected by superstitions.
but there are some people or countries communicating with superstitions. the news i read last year said that a hotel in China did not accept an event held by Holland. because Dutch wear clogs, wooden hard shoes, and some Chinese believe a superstition: sounds of hard shoes give them bad things.

3. DO YOU BELIEVE IN SUPERSTITIOUS? IF YES, WHAT SUPERSTITIONS DO YOU BELIEVE? WHY DO YOU DO, USE, OR BELIEVE IN THEM?i do not believe in superstitions. they must be interesting and fun but believing them is kind of childish. i cannot believe things that is unsupported by fact and unseen.

HOMEWORK - The Languagr of Clothes

The Language of Clothes
1. DO YOU JUDGE PEOPLE ACCORDING TO WHAT THEY WEARE? WHY?
Sometimes I do. We often heard "Do not judge people by their looks." but I think What people weare sometimes shows what they are. ex, who weare a wrinkled shirt should be sloppy.

2. DO YOU THINK JAPANESE SOCIETY PUTS AN IMPORTANCE ON CLOTHING WHEN JUDGING OTHER PEOPLE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY?
I think the old Japanese society does and the modern doesn't. That's why the old has prejudice against differences: foreigners, but I don't feel like that so much recently.

3.WHAT COLORS ARE YOU WEARING NOW? DO THEY REFRECT YOUR MOOD?
beige, brown, pink, yellow, light blue.. I'm wearing a floral-print dress now. I cant say these colors refrect my mood but I can say dresses especially floral-printed are refrect my mood.

Friends
1. WHAT ARE SOME SUBJECTS THAT YOU WILL NEVER DISCUSS WITH A FRIEND?
About my biggest worry.

2. DO YOU HAVE DIFFERENT FRIENDS FOR DIFFERENT THINGS? GO TO DIFFERENT PLACES? GIVE ME SOME EXAMPLES.
No, I don't.
